Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge is located on Reelfoot Lake in the northwest corner of Tennessee and southwest corner of Kentucky. The refuge is currently comprised of 10,428 acres. Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge lies in the floodplain of the Mississippi River and is a major stopover point and wintering area for waterfowl and American bald eagles along the Mississippi Flyway. The refuge has managed its excellent natural habitats and enhanced the production of waterfowl foods through the introduction of a cooperative farming program. The refuge offers 7,113 acres of land that consists of moist soil habitat, bottomland hardwood forest, and agricultural cropland. The remaining 3,315 acres are marsh and open water. Forest management and water level management maintain these important waterfowl habitats.
